Building Resilience for our Future Healthcare Professionals with Dr. Andrew McLean

I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Andrew McLean recently on Hope for Healthcare! 
 
Dr. McLean is Clinical Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, and Associate Dean for Wellness at UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences.  He has lectured internationally on pertinent behavioral and public health issues. Dr. McLean has an interest in collaborative models of care, as well as individual and community resilience.
 
During  our podcast, Dr. McLean highlights his top priorities as Associate Dean in promoting Well-Being for his health science students, medical residents and faculty.
 
We delve into Well-Being from a trainee standpoint, and how they are addressing medical and health science student wellness, resilience and stress management, as well as educating faculty on these important areas.
 
What I love about our discussion is how Dr. McLean identifies the importance of helping our future healthcare professionals to build both personal and professional resilience along with leadership development!

Dr. Andrew McLean

Dr. McLean is Clinical Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, and Associate Dean for Wellness at UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences.  

He obtained his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, completed a Psychiatry Residency at the University of Wisconsin and an M.P.H. degree from the University of Minnesota.  He has received the American Psychiatric Association Bruno Lima award for outstanding contributions to Disaster Psychiatry, and has been conferred with numerous teaching excellence awards, as well as distinguished alumnus recognition.  Dr. McLean previously was the Medical Director of the North Dakota Department of Human Services and was a hospital surveyor for The Joint Commission.  He has served on numerous clinical, administrative, and regulatory boards including medical licensing and professional health programs.   He has lectured internationally on pertinent behavioral and public health issues. Dr. McLean has an interest in collaborative models of care, as well as individual and community resilience.
